    One solution to this proposed in the Parallels forum is to download and install Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator, a freeware tool that lets you create custom key assignments. If you are using a virtual machine (Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion, Virtual Box, or similar) on an Apple computer, the key may be mapped differently by default, even if the tilde key appears to work normally in Windows itself.
